The Spotify cover
Black is the sequel to Red and the third entry in Bart Bonte's colour series. It was released on September 27, 2018 for mobile and on December 5, 2018 for browser.
Overview[]
TBA
Levels[]
1[]
This level 1 is no different than previous level 1s in the prequels. However, this time, the columns turn black in a specific order rather than in one direction.
2[]
Lights out! Pull the cord to turn the light off.
3[]
Again, this level is very similar to past level 3s. You use your pointer to draw over the writing/text.
4[]
Hint: Keep swiping up and down.
Swipe to move the black zigzag. You must swipe in the opposite direction each time.
5 (3 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Tap/Click the screen.
Hint 2: Keep tapping/clicking parts that are not black.
Tap/Click to fracture the white wall. Keep tapping/clicking until the cracks are black. Once the cracks of a piece are black, the piece will break on the next press.
6[]
Swipe to move the black square. Because it travels all the way across and collides with its own path, you must go in a spiral.
7[]
Hint 1: When a bar stays black it is correct, search next.
Hint 2: Tap the bars, find the correct order to tap.
Hint 3: The order is the same as level 1.
Did you remember the sequence of black columns in level 1? You may go back if you wish.
8[]
Hint: Swipe to move the dark blocks over white.
The set of gray rhombuses moves in the opposite direction of vertical swipes, but in the same direction of horizontal swipes. This inverses for the white rhombuses.
This may have came from Duck: Think Outside the Flock level 18.
9 (4 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Find the correct order to tap the eyes.
Hint 2: How many corners?
Hint 3: Circle, triangle, square, pentagon…
Notice the number of sides each pupil has. Click the eyes from least to most sides.
10 (5 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Touch and hold the white circle for some time.
Hint 2: Drag the black circle over the white circle.
Holding the 10 will cause a black circle to illuminate. Take this circle and cover the 10. However, while you are not holding the 10, the light from the circle fades, causing it to blend in with the canvas.
11 (6 on Browser)[]
Hint: Watch the connecting line.
Follow the path. If the path between the current block and the next block has bridges, cross the bridges. If the path goes under a bridge, go under the bridge.
12 (7 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: You can also pull cords in the dark.
Hint 2: Each cord controls one light.
Hint 3: You can still pull cords when you can't see them.
The middle cord toggles the light to the left of it. The left cord toggles the light to the right of the middle light. The right cord toggles the middle light.
13 (8 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Rotate and align.
Hint 2: Rotate the circles to make a square
Hint 3: Then rotate and align the square.
There are 4 black semicircles, a portion of a black square, and a white square. You can not rotate the black portion. Align the semicircles' straight edges. Now, you may rotate the square.
14[]
Swipe to move the white 14. If white blocks are off-screen, they will still return when you swipe back.
15[]
Hint 1: The 4 buttons on the border attract the white blocks.
Hint 2: Move the white blocks away through the middle.
The four buttons move all white blocks 1 space closer to them and eliminate the on directly next to them (if there is one).
This level was inspired by the previous game.
16 (9 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: You can also drag the bars…
Hint 2: Drag the bars in the correct order.
Hint 3: Name of the game?
17[]
You can not move the hole, and you can not drag the chevrons into the hole. Swipe to move the chevrons.
18 (10 on Browser)[]
Every circle has an icon. Click circles with matching icons.
Pink level 40 is the exact same, but a LOT harder. All circles have "PINK" but with subtle edits.
19 (11 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: First, tap all top sides (like the 1 dot).
Hint 2: Then, tap all right sides (like the 2 dots).
Hint 3: Finally, tap all left sides (like the 3 dots).
Clicking a face twice does not do anything, but clicking a wrong face too early (i.e. you clicked 8 of the 9 right faces but then you click a left face) resets the level.
20 (On Browser)[]
Hint 1: Drag and drop.
Hint 2: Drag the dark parts over the white.
Hint 3: Cover the white 20 with the dark parts.
Cover the white 20 using the gray magnet-like figures. The horizontal magnets (poles point to the sides of the screen) go on the 2. The vertical magnets (poles point to the top and bottom of the screen) go on the 0.
21[]
A snake game much like Red level 5. However, you can now enter from either side.
22 (12 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Dots on a button show what button to press next.
Hint 2: Number of dots is number of positions away.
Hint 3: Direction of dots is the direction to move.
This level can easily complicate people who only understand arrows. Here, there are rhombuses with groups of two or three dots. Their only clue is if they are pointing horizontally or vertically. Messups and clicking a black rhombus reset the board.
23 (13 on Browser)[]
Each button spawns two black rows/columns at the top/left edge and moves them down/to the right once with each press. If a black row/column reaches the edge, it goes back to the beginning.
24 (14 on Browser)[]
Pong. Unlike Me and the Key and Me and the Key 2, there is no punishment if you lose the pong ball.
25 (15 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: You have to see 25 as a 2 and 5.
Hint 2: There are 8 numbers…
Hint 3: Press the corners in order.
Hint 4: Press 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8.
The given numbers contain ascending digits from 1 to 8.
26[]
Hint 1: Push the buttons in a certain order.
Hint 2: Name of the game?
Hint 3: These are the letters you can see:
ㅤ A
C, K, B
L
Hint 4: Push B L A C K.
The 5 squares shape out the letters of the name of the game. You need to look carefully at what is created by the circle parts. Type B L A C K from the formations.
27[]
Level 11, but much harder. This time, it is not neatly drawn and squares may even seem to connect to one another. For turns, search for joints in lines and follow those lines until you find the next square. Pressing a square twice WILL reset the level.
28[]
Swipe to pave a gray path. When you swipe, the square travels as far as in that direction it can go until it hits the edge or one of the 4 black blocks, but not its own path.
29[]
North East West South. You start where the gray square is and must direct it through the 29. But if you go over yourself or hit the edges, it winds back up.
30 (16 on Browser)[]
Hint: You can only press neighbours. A Walk Once puzzle. Start from one of the left/bottom or right/top 2 squares.
31[]
Hint 1: Can you cover the white ball with something else?
Hint 2: Use the arrow buttons to look on the bottom left.
Hint 3: Move the dark ball over the white ball.
Hint 4: Use the arrow buttons to move the dark ball.
Use the arrows to travel in the direction you want to move the white 31 circle. Find the dark circle and cover the white one with it.
32[]
Hint: Keep the button pressed, release in dark areas. Hold the button until it fills the next white ring. In case the level stops working, hold the button until the level is reset.
33[]
Like Yellow level 28 but 4 times. The toggle buttons are:
-the second lowest up arrow.
-the highest right arrow.
-the fourth left arrow.
-the leftmost down arrow.
Pressing the wrong arrow while copies are black or pressing the toggle arrow too much resets all copies of the arrow but not the level.
34[]
Hint 1: Swipe to move the dark blocks over the white spots.
Hint 2: Move blocks against the numbers to separate them.
Hint 3: Move blocks against the sides to group them.
Move left from the beginning, separate the middle block from the other two, move left again, and place the middle box in the upper slot of the 3.
35 (17 on Browser)[]
Hint: Count sides, not cubes. Like Yellow level 20.
36[]
Hint 1: Move on the top bar with the bottom button.
Hint 2: Then move to the bottom bar with the top button.
The top button (which is pressed upon pressing the bottom button) brings a black row down. The bottom button (which is pressed upon pressing the top button) brings another black row down, however when this black row passes the one controlled by the top button, it paints the rows below it when passing them. The rows will invert if this black row goes back up to the top without having painted all the rows first. The former black row will also clear these rows.
37 (18 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Press the button, then press the block that flashed.
Hint 2: But don't press a block when it is black.
Like Yellow level 14 but with a button. With each press, the button will select a random tile to flash. Press that tile, but press the button again if the tile that flashed is black, as pressing it turns it back to white.
NOTE: As more tiles turn black, the likelihood that the button flashes a black tile increases dramatically, so to make the last tile black, you may have to press the button several times.
38[]
Hint: Click the black glass to make the current bar black.
Press the black lens to make the row the moving one is on black. The moving row will shift up one row each time, and Bonte's lenses invert. The state of the current row depends on which lens was pressed last (i.e. if you press the white lens after the black lens, the row changes to white).
39[]
Hint 1: Swipe the black blocks to cover the white spots.
Hint 2: Leave a black block besides a white spot….
First line up the speaker boxes vertically. Then move the one in the corner to the other corner and the middle one across.
40[]
A golf level. Avoid pulling back too much or the golf ball may glide over the blocks without destroying them.
41[]
A walk-once puzzle. Start with the rhombus on the left, then go up. The direction of the rhombus does not necessarily mean you have to follow its direction (e.g. you do not have to move to the rhombus on the left or right if you land on a horizontal rhombus, and vice-versa).
42 (19 on Browser)[]
Hint 1: Press 2 buttons, all buttons in between will flip.
Hint 2: No need to always press 2 buttons next to each other!
Hint 3: Press 2 buttons in the same line.
Press two faces that are in line with each other. All the faces in between—including themselves—invert.
43 (21 on Browser)[]
The top button makes one of the white tiles black. Use the bottom left button to move upward and the bottom right to move across. Align with the tile. In case you forget which tile flashed, keep moving until you can't.
44 (22 on Browser)[]
Hints 1-3: this button moves to this side of current triangle.
Hint 4: Movement is relative to the current triangle.
On an upside-down triangle, the top button moves to the triangle directly above, the left button to the one directly to the left, and the right button to the one directly to the right. For upright triangles, this inverses.
45[]
Hint 1: Touch and hold the button, but not for too long.
Hint 2: Use the letters.
Hint 3: Count 12 letters.
The level is complete only after the cycle ends.
46[]
Hint 1: Only border buttons work.
Hint 2: The triangle can only move along diagonals.
Press a border triangle on the same diagonal as the current position of the triangle to move it.
47 (23 on Browser)[]
Starting with the 1-dot, move clockwise the number of dots on the current die.
48 (24 on Browser)[]
Hint: Pull the cord all the way down and keep it there.
49[]
First align a speaker box on the bottom spot, then use the same solution from level 39.
50 (25 on Browser)[]
Set the RGB sliders to match the top ring each time.
Bugs, Glitches, and Notes[]
- On level 5, if you destroy the bottom right portion of the wall first and go counterclockwise, when you finish the level, there is still a crack. On browser, you start with the upper right portion.
- On browser, you can briefly see the cracks.
- On level 13, if you align the square fast enough, you will notice a white outline.
- On level 24, on mobile, the pong ball does not appear until you interact with the screen, but on browser, it automatically appears.
- For the browser version of level 25, the tens place of 25 and 14 swapped.
- On level 36, pressing a button controls the other one instead. It is unknown if this is intentional or just a bug.
- When you press the button on level 37, you can see a black tile behind it.
- Level 43 can be completed prematurely once 18 tiles are aligned and a 19th appears. All you have to do is go to the last white tile.
- This was patched for browser, and hence you have to align 19 squares before you can complete the level.
Trivia[]
- This colour makes up the Belgian flag along with the previous 2 colours.
- In the teaser trailer, circles with icons appear, but they are not tapped as pairs.
- Every level has its level number somewhere on it.
- This is the only color where the sections on level 1 invert in a set order rather than in a single direction (e.g. side to side, inner to outer, or clockwise).
- This is the last game to have drawing levels and chevron levels (with chevrons).
- The level concept reappears in Orange level 11 but with the chevrons as 1s.
- This is also the last game to use Bart Bonte in one of the levels and the RGB mechanism, likely because they would be too hard in upcoming games.
- This is the second color to have complex graphics, after the prequel.
- This is also the last color to have only 1 level (level 5) with complex graphics (level 38 does not count since Bart Bonte appears in every color).
- This is the only colour where the player must eliminate a color other than white or black.
- This is the first color where levels 5, 9, and 43 appear on the browser version of the game.
- This is the last color where levels 37 and 44 appear on the browser version.
- This is the only colour where level 47 appears on browser.
- This is also currently the only color where levels 6 and 7 do not appear on browser.
- The mobile version of level 11 shows the level number inside the puzzle with a bold font weight, but the browser version shows the level number outside the puzzle with the normal Calibri font weight.
- If you leave level 38 intact, Bonte's lenses will have visible white pixels in the bottom left corner.
- Bonte's right lens is also completely black, which might be a design error.
- This game has the most plays on Bart Bonte's Spotify, with 161,858.
- The cover is level 42 with all white left faces.
